Once or twice a year it is a good idea to thoroughly cleanse your organism in order to get rid of accumulated toxins and other harmful substances. This primarily refers to the cleansing, not the loss of excess weight, although this is a welcome side effect of this process. The best body cleanse method should be effective, but easy to perform, and, above all, healthy for you.

There are several methods of so-called spring cleaning. Fasting is the most common method, and is generally carried out for at least five to seven days. Given the pace of your life, you may find it to be difficult to perform. During fasting, you must consume only plain water. It is important to drink enough water, but not all at once. It is best to drink one glass of water every hour.

In many cultures, fasting is a way of reaching higher spiritual levels. While taking only water during longer periods of time, you will get into state called ketosis. It causes unpleasant feeling on your tongue, strange smell on your skin and some other side effects. Even so, they usually go away in a few days, and you will began to feel purified and detoxified. You will also lose some weight during this process.

Doctors generally are not advocates of fasting. Much better solution is taking the natural juices instead of water. Of course, you should take freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices with no added sugar, not industrial finished juices. The value of this method of cleansing is that your body flushes the accumulated toxins and depletes the fats, but receives all important vitamins and minerals it needs to stay healthy and strong.

Do not confuse the cleansing process with losing excess weight. If you don't take any carbohydrates, you will quickly lose a few pounds. Just as quickly, you'll get the weight back because you will actually lose only water. If you want to lose excess weight permanently, you have to change your attitude towards food and just eat less. This way you will control your weight, feel better and live longer.

Some people believe in regular weekly fasting. The method is very simple; you just have to take only freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices one day every week. Many women practice this method for years, and regulate their weight this way. Besides, it keeps their colons clean and happy. Even then, it is good to fast for a week in the beginning of a spring, to remove the fat accumulated during winter.

Various natural herbal teas can be a great help in cleansing process. Green tea contains natural anti-oxidants and helps in detoxification. Mixtures of organic teas and natural juices of dark berries like blueberries and blackberries are also packed with valuable vitamins and antioxidants. Cranberry and similar red berries also have a great effect.

Although fasting really is the best body cleanse method, you can try using laxatives or colon cleansers to speed up the process in the beginning. Be very careful not to over-use these things, because they could cause dehydration, lack of potassium and other health problems. Be patient and use natural methods that will have a positive effect on your health.
