Developed in Japan by Buddhist Mikao Usui in 1922, Reiki is a healing modality that involves the use of human touch. In common with healing traditions in China and India, it is based on the theory of a life-giving energy known as 'Ki'. Low levels of Ki result in lethargy and illness, while high levels promote health and vibrancy. Reiki is a way to restore health by balancing and 'cleaning' Ki. This brief article will look at what one can expect when undergoing Reiki healing in Long Island NY, or elsewhere.

Ki is the non-physical energy that flows through all living things. In Chinese healing traditions it is known as 'qi', in Indian traditions it is known as 'prana'. It gives life to every living organism on the planet, including plants, animals and human beings. Humans receive Ki from the air, from food, sunshine and sleep. We can also develop greater levels of Ki through practises such as deep breathing and meditation.

Reiki seeks to treat the whole person, body, mind and spirit, by balancing and restoring the flow of Ki. It is a simple therapy, yet can be extremely powerful in its effects. It has been effective in treating just about every malady one can imagine, and can be a powerful adjunct to conventional modes of healing.

While it would not be true to claim that it is 100 percent effective, it almost always produces a notably beneficial effect for most patients. A session will typically result in the patient feeling hugely relaxed at the very least. They will also likely feel that any stress they have been carrying has melted away.

A key aspect of everyone's life force is that it is responsive to thoughts and emotions. If negative thoughts, feelings, attitudes and beliefs are indulged in habitually, they can attach themselves to the body's life force and disrupt its flow. Over time, this energetic disturbance can lead to illness, both physical and psychological.

Using intuition guided by higher consciousness, the healer will identify and target areas of the patient's energy field that are disrupted. He or she will direct his/her positive energy to the affected areas to create a positive charge. The aim is to clear away any disrupting negative energy and thus restore the healthy flow of Ki. When the patient's Ki is flowing properly, he or she should enjoy an improvement in health.

In the immediate aftermath of a healing session, patients can generally expect to feel a much enhanced sense of well-being. Huge stress reduction and deep calm are also common reactions. Negative emotions will also tend to be greatly lessened resulting in greater peace and clarity of mind.

When undergoing Reiki healing in Long Island NY, or elsewhere, it is important to bear in mind that this system of healing is not a religion. It is certainly a spiritual practise, but it has no dogma. It is also important to note that it does not require that the patient actually believe that the treatment will work. An attitude of acceptance and open mindedness is certainly helpful, but the treatment will work regardless of the patient's belief in it, or lack of it.
