Massage is a form of manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle in the body using various techniques to improve function and aid the healing process. It also helps reduce reflex activity of muscles, inhibit motoneuronal excitability and promote relaxation. It is probably the oldest therapeutic tool used by massage therapist in York PA to provide a natural remedy against pain and stress.

Its development and use has been uneven to society to become the technique of structured touch we know today. There are different types of reflexology, they range from relaxation to the emotional or sensuous; specifically through the therapeutic actions (massage therapy) in the health field and sports disciplines aimed at improving physical activity. Because the process involves contact with the body, it supports more or less deep rejuvenation.

Physiological aspects relieve fatigue; they are associated with the practice of gentle exercise and gymnastics, and thermal baths. Preventive: these are true when located by palpation a tense area or possible injury. So two of the functions of therapists are met: educate, and promote health.

Some combine it with traditional systems to restore harmony between the patient and his family, nature, God, to solve problems that could have caused the disorientation or stress. There is also prenatal Hawaiian reflexology carried out during labor, massage for newborns, among others. This form of acupressure was originally practiced by Hawaiian healers. The term Lomi Lomi means squeeze, knead and chop. Hawaiian lomi lomi is very similar to the Californian massage techniques.

Massage therapists combine different classical manipulations of Swedish massage to compression, acupressure, cross fiber friction, joint mobilization, hydrotherapy and cryotherapy (massage using extreme cold) to meet the needs of elite athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Massage Rx is a generic term because it encompasses different types of massages depending on parties to whom it relates. Manual lymphatic drainage is thus a technique that aims to improve the overall health of patients.

Lymph is a fluid that bathes the organs whose cells play an important role in the immune system, since it is they that are mobilizing to fight against infections. They also carry waste. By stimulating the flow of lymph through the body, lymphatic drainage allows it to eliminate waste faster, to remove toxins and fight against viruses and bacteria.

Swedish massage combines firmness and softness, as required. It runs on both the muscle attachments, such as the tendons and muscles. It provides a greater muscle relaxation and thus promote increased range of motion. Swedish rubdown also called classic reflexology is used for therapeutic purposes by the masseurs in medical facilities.

Rubdowns are also aimed at the physical rehabilitation and recovery of pathological processes, or from injuries. Professional use of massage in health requires some understanding of anatomy and human physiology in addition to knowledge surrounding indications and contraindications. Training includes issues related to ethical conduct. When therapists treat people suffering from injury or illness, they must contact the patient's physician for further indications. Currently, practitioners who perform alternative therapy in its various forms are physiotherapists, doctors, massage therapists, chiropractors.
