It is astonishing to learn that more than 15 million Americans suffer from some for of dermatitis and that another 20 million suffer from a variety of symptoms resembling dermatitis. These unfortunate people have to cope with itchy skin, inflammation, blisters that ooze and form crusts and constant irritation. The condition can have a serious impact on the quality of life of sufferers. Fortunately, there is an alternative treatment for eczema.

Unfortunately, sufferers have to accept the fact that there is no permanent cure for this condition. The best that can be done is to treat the symptoms and alleviate the discomfort experienced by the patient. Nobody is immune from developing dermatitis. It can occur at any age and it manifest anywhere on the body. The severity of the symptoms also varies from one patient to the next.

Medical science may not be able to cure dermatitis yet, but certain medication is available to help provide relief against the symptoms. Unfortunately many patients experience side effect and therefore rather depend upon other remedies. There are numerous natural remedies but their effectiveness depends upon the actual cause of the condition in each individual patient. To determine this cause is easier said than done.

Many experts agree that one of the main causes of this condition is allergies. Patients that suffer from allergies seem to be prone to develop dermatitis too. Some of the allergens that are blamed for this include laundry detergent, perfumes, pet dander, feathers and certain soaps. Those that are allergic to certain foods, such as gluten and dairy are also deemed to be at risk of developing the condition.

Many patients have reported positive results after changing their diet. Dieticians recommend that patients consume probiotics, organic vegetables and fruit and food low in acids. It also seems as if daily vitamin supplements containing B12 and D play an important role in holding the condition at bay. Processed food should be avoided at all times and some experts recommend cutting out all foods containing gluten and dairy.

It has been noted that a very large percentage of dermatitis sufferers experience high levels of emotional stress. As soon as the factors causing this stress is removed from the equation, they experience considerable relief. Sufferers may need to consult a therapist in order to identify the factors that cause their stress levels to rise. Disciplines such as meditation and yoga can also help to control stress levels.

The use of natural remedies have become extremely popular. Many patients find that the application of sunflower seed oil or coconut oil on afflicted areas of the skin provides immediate relief. There are also many natural remedies available but consumers should be careful before using untested preparations that contain a mixture of different natural ingredients. Any remedy that promises a cure should be avoided at all cost.

People with eczema have no choice but to live with the condition. There is much that they can do, however, to relieve the symptoms once they manifest themselves. It may be worth it to conduct some research and to experiment with various safe alternative treatment methods.
