The NFL football team ran into a lean spell in the 1980s. Thousands of fans were seen at televised games wearing paper bags over their head so that nobody could recognize them. By 2009, the team finally redeemed itself by bringing home the Super Bowl trophy. Feasibility studies are currently under way to see if NOLA is a suitable venue for a major league soccer team.

The aim of deep tissue massage therapy is to realign the deep tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments) in the leg muscles, shoulders and upper and lower back. A lot of the same manipulations are used that conventional massage therapists employ. Loosening the tissue clears toxins and enables the flow of oxygen and nutrients to where they are needed.

The problem with ignoring stiff muscles is that the resultant toxins build up a significant inflammatory response that causes pain and stress. You don't necessarily need to have a sports injury in order to benefit from this approach. Normal wear and tear, bad posture and external stress can be enough to set up the conditions for damaging inflammation. Don't think of deep tissue massage as a treat, think of it as a regular tune-up that keeps you at peak performance.
