A primary source of disabling back pain is a herniated disc in the spine. When you view a diagram or model of one of the vertebrae the spine is composed of, you clearly see how close to the bone the nerve root is. You may be shown a model of this during your initial appointment with a prominent Chiropractor Mississauga Ontario.

You will be asked questions and to describe the pain you are suffering from. The chiropractor will make an in-depth evaluation of your condition by physically examining the spine. In the majority of cases an x-ray is used to discover or confirm the condition.

The first step to relief is to determine whether chiropractic care is the appropriate way to lessen your back pain. Second, a plan for care will be outlined. This may consist of a series of appointments scheduled for having these adjustments done. Contrary to what some people believe, these are not harsh in any way.

Each of the discs are made up of a gel-like soft center and a hard fibrous outer layer. Each lies between two of the spinal vertebrae. Each acts as a cushion to protect one bone from rubbing against another. With the sensitive nerve root located so close to the disc, the pressure against it causes severe pain.

Adjustments to the spine are the primary, but not the only action intended to heal. Massage and cold or hot compresses may be used. You may be instructed to follow a mild exercise routine at home between office visits. As the vertebrae are gradually returned to their correct positions, pressure and pain are alleviated.

It is the pressure exerted against the nerve root that causes the back pain. The number of adjustments that must be completed varies from person to person. No two are exactly alike and each responds at a different rate. Improvement is related to the clients age, general health and extent of the damage to his or her spine.
