Taking certain preventative measures and taking good care of your health will serve you well. All of us are subject to the effects of aging, although we can make these effects less prevalent when we apply proper care to ourselves. Skin will respond positively to an overall healthy lifestyle, but along with this, one can enhance the skin by having Botox, chemical peels, Photofacials, or a facelift procedure. Taking good care of your skin is something you should always do before, during, and after your cosmetic treatment.

Carefully monitoring the amount of sun that we are exposed to is the biggest way we can make the most difference when we are trying to avoid aging skin. Understand that both the sun and tanning salons expose you to harmful ultraviolet (UV) light, which causes the bulk of damage for most people with aging skin. Sunscreen is important to apply to the skin because we may not notice the damage that the sun does to our skin, as it accumulates over time slowly.

Skin that is well hydrated looks more youthful and healthy. Often the best daily approach is to use a good facial moisturizer to help hydrate the outer layers of the skin.

The way we eat shows up in our skin. Omega 6 and omega 3 essential fatty acids are important for your skin in particular. These can be gained from fish, flax seed oil, or walnuts and other foods. For many people, their diets include most of what they need in this area, and the skin gets most of the essential fatty acids that it requires. Whenever possible, opt for whole wheat grains over "white" breads. Eat fruits and vegetables, non-saturated fats, and low-fat dairy products. Follow the recommendations of your dietitian or doctor, and use good judgment. Improving the way you eat will help you feel good and protect your skin from rapid aging.

The damage we receive in our skin is repaired by the natural enzymes within it. Skin will look younger for longer as these repair the damage we take from the sun, but they can only do so much as some aging happens no matter what. Tobacco products such as cigarettes contain toxins and free radicals that kill these helpful enzymes, and will also destroy collagen and elastin which keep skin more tight and youthful looking. Smokers need to keep in mind that with every cigarette a smoker has, their skin's aging progression is increased. Make sure you do your best to stop smoking. Your health will benefit in countless ways, and the state of your skin will stabilize and stop aging at such a rapid rate.

Acne is something that affects different people in different amounts. Scars sometimes remain after bad acne, and none of us appreciate their unsightly appearance. Consult a dermatologist to help get your acne under control. Younger looking skin can be maintained longer when the scars from acne are not allowed to develop in the first place. A physician will work with a patient to find the acne treatment that will benefit them the most. For those with more serious problems, a chemical peel is an option for acne, and this can be assessed and administered by a cosmetic surgeon.
